When a serial arsonist started burning down homes under construction near the mountain preserves, the "Preserve Arsonist" caused one of the biggest manhunts  in Arizona history, with multiple local, state and federal agencies involved.  When Preston started doing daily shows with representatives of these agencies, the arsonist burned down a home to get him to stop.  The Phoenix Police asked Westmoreland to lay low on the topic, which he did, until the arsonist, Mark Sands was caught.  Sands told the New Times in an anonymous interview, that Westmoreland especially made him angry, with his name calling. DNA off the envelope that contained the threats, and the headline "This one's for you, Preston." were used as evidence in his trial.  He is now in prison.  Court TV did a show on the aspects of the Preserve Arsonist.
